GREGORY MILLAR
Gregory Millar specialises in linocut printmaking and oil painting.
Gregory studied graphic design and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and before following a career in graphic design at the BBC in London. He has also worked with creative agencies on brand identity projects around the globe. He has now come full circle and returned to his loves of linocut printmaking and oil painting.
Gregory’s design style is inspired by numerous influences including the timeless clarity of classic Japanese woodblock prints and the honest realism of the great Flemish painter Breughel. His paintings and linocut prints are often large in size. The finished results are strong figurative images, based on a wide range of everyday experiences which hopefully evoke an emotional connection with the viewer. Gregory’s subject matter is drawn from landscapes, sports and his young family. Gregory is a member of the Leicester Print Workshop and the Society of Scottish Artists.
Gregory has exhibited his linocut prints at:
The National Open Printmaking Exhibition 2018, Bankside Gallery, London
LOOP Exhibition 2018, LCB, Leicester
Attenborough Arts Festival 2018, Leicester
The Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2018, London
Gregory's 2019 oil painting commission of 'St Joan and the Poppies' is now on permanent public display St Joan of Arc Catholic Memorial Church, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire.
